Project 1, Visual Basic

My first attempt at Adobe In Design.

  • Description: A Flyer I made for a Graduate Leadership Conference.
  • Process (Programs, Tools, Skills):  Adobe In Design
  • Message: I wanted to make sure that everyone knew about the event and attended.  I wanted to make something visually striking.  I wanted the triangle motif to stand out in both positive and negative space.
  • Audience: Graduate students who need a leg up on the competition.
  • Top Thing Learned:  I have really been able to sink my teeth into Adobe InDesign.  That has been incredibly valuable to me.
  • Title Font Name & Category:  Sans Serif Futura
  • Copy Font Name & Category: Sans Serif Helvetica

  1. Hey John, the first thing I noticed when I first looked at your flier was the use of the two black triangles in the corners diagonally from each other. I thought it was a good way to get the reader to focus to the middle of the flier where the meat of the flier was. I also liked that you put an emphasis on the time and place with the title. It was brilliant to me because when I look at an event ad I first look at the headline A.K.A the title to see if I’m even interested, next I look at the when and where to see if I can even go. Thats normally all I look at in a flier when I am passing by and your flier made it easy to see those two things in my eyes. Good use of white space and I’m glad you didn’t make the logo of the company putting on the event to big and that you left it in the corner.

  2. John, for the most part, I really enjoyed your flier. It drew my eyes quickly to the what, when and where. I do think that the angle you use for your triangles is a little steep and it makes me feel like I have to tilt my head to be able to read it. The other thing I might change is to move the logo somewhere that is more visible, I actually didn’t see it until I was went back and analyzed the flier. I thought you did a good job on the leading and kerning (except on the time, it looks like 218 a.m.)
